Ancient Tales behind Karva Chauth

Historically Karwa Chauth was celebrated by the wives for the soldiers who went to war. This was the prayer for their safety and to come back glorious. But in the present-day, it is just an extension as a ritual and one of the ways to show their love for husbands and bond with other females in the society. How is Karva Chauth Celebrated?

Karva Chauth fast begins with a pre-sunrise meal called Sargi, which is like the love and blessings a mother-in-law prepares for her Bhau. Then once after the meal is done, women start observing their fast and pray to god with their tapa. Once the sun goes down, they start getting ready for the Karva Chauth pooja adorning all the solah shringar. They listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha and wait for the moonrise. Once the moon is up they pray to the lord, give aragh to the moon and see it through the sieve and then see their husband's face through the same sieve. The husband then feeds her with water and sweets and helps her break the fast.
