Is it acceptable for men to wear a suit instead of a tuxedo?

This will depend completely on the host, and the venue! A well-fitted dark suit with a bow tie or an elegantly knotted tie can be appropriate. A black or dark suit or tuxedo is a must, especially paired with patent leather shoes. Men can even choose to go with a vest and/or a cummerbund to upgrade the look.
