Washington DC area Indian community has blossomed in past few years. Its largely because of a highly educated, lawyers, software engineers, high-tech entrepreneurs, doctors and financial professionals. This area has a diverse group of its own kind that speaks different languages and has different religions and all come up from different parts of India.
The cuisine served today at local Indian restaurants in DC is beginning to showcase this rich diversity. Also its butter chicken on rice is awesome. Indian delight, Aroma Indian restaurant, CafÃ© spice are few on the top of the charts. Homemade mint chutney and papadum is a good start at Bombay Club. Its paneer appetizers are also phenomenal. The decor is very sophisticated and food is excellent. Taj Mahal serves you fresh food with great flavor. The most favorites are its veggie samosa, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. Its delicious. The Shrimp Biryani is amazing too. Taste of India is famous for its kababs and tandori chicken.
There is an accredited Indian school in the area that teaches Indian languages, classical dance, and music. There are many Sikh gurudwaras and Hindu temples in the area. You can catch a bollywood movie at Loehmanns Plaza in Falls Church on sat or Sunday evenings shows which plays only Indian movies.
Many Hindu temples are there in US as many Indians are settled there. The temple there are very clean and neat but also to some extent built in our traditional way.Sri Siva Vishnu Temple in the Washington, DC is very famous among Hindus. This temple is located in Washington DC and was built during 80s. The main deities here are of Lord Venkateshwara and Lord Shiva. The temple will be celebrates all Hindu festivals and New Year Eve with food and entertainment.
There are lot of Indian clothing stores and jewelry stores in the area. Also more than 20 Indian grocery stores are there in the area. Indian spices and ingredients can be found on the shelves of supermarkets like Giant, Wegmans and Whole Foods. Patel brothers, India Grand, Indian Spices and Gifts & Appliances are famous Indian grocery stores in the vicinity.
